Imaginary City: Berlin

For the second time the Berlinage Residency brought together Collage Artists from different countries for ten days to explore Berlin, make art and exhibit together. This time, the focus was on the tension between imaginary cities, utopias and their relationship to the reality of everyday urban life.
For as long as humans have gathered in cities, those cities have had their shining—or shadowy—counterparts. Imaginary cities, potential cities, future cities, dream cities.
Cities are products of human imagination and at the same time they question/ disrupt any grandiose planning, because they are used by human beings and become living entities that can never be fully controlled.
Artistic interpretations not only depict cities but also have the power to shape their identitiy.  Before coming to Berlin the artists made a work / group of works around the theme once in Berlin the work was completed / added with Berlin experiences. In the group of collage artists everybody added to the collective field and produced Berlin-snippets that have not been here before.

The gallery in Berlins art district Auguststraße served as a studio …
